Sad day in Hip-Hop. Not saying coz I’m a loyal 50 fan but because the new album is great which deserved to sell much more this.

This is 50’s lowest debut ever in his 4 album career and the first time that he has failed to go Gold in the 1st week itself. Look at the figures below and you will realize what’s just happened.

1st week:

Get Rich Or Die Tryin: 872k

The Massacre: 1.1 Million

Curtis: 691k

Before I Self Destruct: 160k

The leak played a huge role without a doubt but 160 ???

the was a good album ,but with 50 doin all the extra stuff, dissin buck, ross, jay-z, and game, took the focus off 50 as a rapper, to 50 Cent the comedian. if 50 kept his battles on wax it would’ve kept the attention on his music. 50 really tried hard to embarrass buck and ross and lookin at 50’s numbers he took just as big a loss if not bigger than they did.

I agree with only some of this^. Buck, Ross, Jay, Game, All took shots at 50 first.

One hand he deserves it because he made such a big deal about sales over quality of music. He’s hated too much.

On the other hand the album was hot.

i agree navjosh they did take shots first ,but you gotta know when to quit. i mean the beef wit him and ross been ova for months he totally exposed ross and just last week 50 still takin shots at ross by takin pictures with ross’ son at floyd mayweathers house. C’mon son what’s to gain from that situation at this point. he didn’t gain anything from it cause he only did 160k, really he only did about 110k cause 50k sales was from 2 week old itunes sales. plus he called out jay-z for being too big to respond. did he respond buck? 50 created the environment he’s in now. the only thing that can get him out now is a g-unit album with all the g-unit members includin buck and game or at the very least bring buck back to the unit. Or he needs to put a young buck album out. I’m sure buck can put up 100k-160k the first week.

is that just store sales? or both with itunes?

    1. In terms of chart performance Baby By Me is super average compared 2 other singles (In Da Club, Disco Inferno, Candy Shop, Outta Control, I Get Money).

    2. Interscope spent as little as possible on this project since 50 refused to sign a new contract. Jimmy probably figured why spend money on an artist who will end up on another label. Interscope totally ignored this project – the confusion over release dates is another reason. Compare the marketing campaign for Eminems Relapse to BISD. Wouldnt be surpised if he was on a smaller budget than Wale. How does one of the biggest hiphop stars not get a full slot at a major awards show the week of his album release??? Interscope dropped the ball.

    3. The album leaked (whether 50 leaked it or not is another story) 30 days early and was available on iTunes 7 days before the official release date.

    4. The theatrics (Ross etc) doubled traffic for ThisIs50 which means he has a larger audience to market his best work (music) to so that definitely can’t be a reason.

    5. 50 kicked out Game and Buck. Which is fair based on how they were trying to damage the GUnit brand. That said, by kicking out those two artists he isolated the West & South to an extent. Game and Buck were growing in stature – something the West & South were proud of. 50 couldn’t replace them…

IMO no other rapper will even cross 100k in the near future. i’m hearing game has been going in on 50. game is a dope rapper but he woun’t even crack 60K…..

damn… y’all might as well have let me make a post…..

Ha, that was long but interesting..

Word, you make plenty of solid arguments especially the dynamics between 50 and Interscope. I was hoping he’d sell more so he’d have more leverage when it came to a new deal. The only way I’ll get to hear a new Lloyd Banks album or a G-Unit album is if 50 is successful.

Any news on international sales? 50 tends to hit out the park when you combine the two.

  14. Navjosh 26. Nov, 2009 at 8:19 am #

He’s doing decent internationally. Better than in the US.

BISD is mediocre at best(it’s damn near wack!) The album sold poorly because people are finally seeing through the BS. He’s only four albums in and his light is starting to fade. He should just stick to business ventures, because that’s where he does great. Remember, Lil’ Wayne’s Carter III album leaked also and he sold 1 million copies his first week. The leak of 50’s album is a sorry excuse for his album selling poorly. I always get music early and if I enjoy the album, than I go out and support the artist for good work, and @james, who the F**k wants to hear a new Lloyd Banks or G Unit album? They suck worse than 50. LOL!!! LMFAO!!!

First of all, nobody’s entire album leaked 1 month in advance like 50. This is not to defend 50, but to point out your flawed arguement. When Lil Wayne material leaked, it wasn’t the material that ended up on the album either. There are many other factors that contributed to his 1st week sales. By the way when you argue, you’re including emotions and bias. Many people will argue with you that this is 50’s second best album. If you ask everybody around you, you will see that the majority of people who download an album illegally, don’t go and buy it afterwards. Why would you buy an album after you just got it for free? To support the artist you like to listen to? Most people don’t care about that once the material is in there hand. No point in owning it twice.
