In August this year, Andy Mineo and Wordsplayed joined forces to collaborate on a joint project called MAGIC & BIRD. The 13-track retail mixtape tells a story of two men coming from different walks of life coming together for a solid set. The friends originally connected in New York City many years ago over their common love for music and comedy.
Today, HHNM is premiering their new video ‘DANCE (YOU SEE IT)’ which was primarily shot in Coney Island, New York and directed by Marcus Tortorici. Says Andy about the song: “Joel of 42*North sent me this beat while I was on tour. I had just finished a workout and my phone was still connected to the speakers. When I played the beat off my phone, everybody in the green room heard it. I saw one of the dancers on tour, Jeff, LOVING the track and he started dancing to it immediately. I had actually passed on the beat previously, but seeing his response made me give it a second chance. The chorus “DOIN MY DANCE!” came from that interaction. “Doin my dance” is also code for “I’m putting in work – doing my thing, what I’m good at.”
Adds Wordsplayed, “the sleeper track on the album. Andy sent me the beat about a month before the ATL sessions and I loved it, but it kind of got forgotten because we were working on so much at once. Andy and I took an afternoon to write separately and I found it and laid my verse. He was like “yo you a fool for this!” when he heard it. Then he yells “I’M DOING MY DANCE” and it took off from there.”
