Dawaun Parker may not be a name that strikes you immediately but if you’re a credits reader and pay attention to detail, the name can not be missed. Dawaun Parker has been signed to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment as a producer and songwriter for many years now. From producing hit records for 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Jay Z & more to co-producing nearly every song on Eminem’s Relapse, Dawaun has been in the studio with the best of the best.

His latest outing is 50 Cent & Trey Songz’ latest single ‘Smoke‘ for which is credited as a co-producer. We had the chance to speak to Dawaun about his contribution to the song, how it’s like to work with Dr. Dre, allegations that Dre doesn’t produce his own beats, whether Detox will ever come out, working with his artist Phil Beaudreau, building his own company AoE and much more.

ashanti promo 4 500x480

Ashanti may be best known for her self titled debut album which spawned the number 1 single ‘Foolish’, went Gold first week and won her a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B album. But the truth is that she has put out consistent, well defined R&B music ever since then.

Her 5th album, Braveheart hit stores yesterday (March 4th) through her own imprint Written Entertainment with support from eOne music. The album features contributions from Rick Ross (on 1st single ‘I Got It’), French Montana, Jeremih and Beenie Man. And while she was on her promo campaign, we were able to chat with her for a few about the album, being a CEO of her own label, her favorite songs on the album, upcoming music with Ja Rule, possibility of working with 50 Cent, whether she gets tired over media asking her about Nelly, ghostwriting for other artists and more.

And oh yes, I openly told her I had a huge crush on her.

Multi-platinum recording engineer Steve Baughman

Recording engineers live a crazy life. These people are literally the first people to ever hear a song when it is being created in the studio and are privy to some incredible amount of information that never comes out in general public. Most of the times, they are not even allowed to speak on the sessions they had with artists to maintain the sanctity of their relationships.

A few days ago, I had the chance to talk to multi-platinum recording engineer and mixer Steve Baughman who has worked with artists like Michael Jackson, Prince, Eminem, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Usher, Destiny’s Child and countless more. Just a brief look at his discography will blow your mind. Mind you, it’s not easy to take out information from people of this profession but I did manage to talk intimately on a lot of topics including studio sessions with the artists named above.

We also discussed the magic moment when he recorded ‘In Da Club’ with 50 and Dre in the studio, why there is a delay in release of Street King Immortal, his future endeavors and more.
