Welcome back to another riveting edition of Saturday Spotlight. Week in and week out we are breathing in, and exhaling the essence of the culture. There’s nothing more powerful than the use of words, and in Hip-Hop your words are your shield, your sword, and your armor. Our goal is simple: finding the next name that will eventually flood playlists whether you use Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, or burned laser-discs. Will you be the next Ty Dolla Sign? IDK? Russ? There’s only one way to find out, submit your music, and put your heart into it. Show us you love the culture as much as we do, show us your passion; show us the tenacity that’s embedded in every bar spit. Show us through your melodies that pull heartstrings.
So far, we’ve been introduced to King P’s intensity, David Tropp’s melodies, the explosive delivery from 3DM, and confidence in their craft with Jinx Da Rebel. Last week, Tarik and Posh won our two spots. These artists have shown HipHop-N-More the hunger we’re looking for. Without further ado, introducing the picks for this week:
Landon Wordswell & The Don Avelar
Introducing first is an ATL meets New Mexico mash-up, where the emcee, Landon Wordswell, and the producer The Don Avelar unite to conjure up an ethereal listening experience. On their track, “The Kids I Know”, Landon’s raps don’t waste any time, every bar is significant with a delivery that’s as exciting as it is engaging. Landon’s lyrics are easily digestible, with themes revolving around existentialism and daily routines leading into a bigger picture. His lines are delivered with confidence as if he’s a vet in the game. ‘The Kids I Know’ is pieced together with The Don’s looping, ruminating vocal sample that nearly releases endorphins as the song progresses. Check out the track below:
TheRedSafari
Introducing next we have TheRedSafari, a melodic artist hailing from the Bay Area in California. Just releasing his “The Sky Changes” EP, TheRedSafari creates melodies sweet as bubblegum. “Pluto Saturn” is not only the most essential track from TheRedSafari, but it’s his most defining. Hundreds being thrown on platters, his women are dressed in Off-White and designer, and he’s flexing on his peers as he touches on his come-up. TheRedSafari’s music shows vulnerability, while simultaneously oozing radiant confidence. Check out his track “Gotta Know” below:
