The Toronto Raptors got some big news this week, but also made some headlines themselves. Along with the announcement that the Raptors will be hosting the NBA All-Star Game in 2016, the franchise announced that Toronto’s own, Drake, will be their new Global Ambassador.
Tim Leiweke, president and CEO of the MLSE (Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, the company that owns the Toronto Raptors), stated that the team will be entering a ‘new age’ as they re-brand the franchise over the course of the next two seasons. Drake will play a major part in this process.
‘I’m really out here with the people, I’m in touch with what they want to see,’ Drake said at a news conference Monday confirming Toronto as the 2016 host. ‘I really just want excitement for this team. I want us to be one of the biggest teams in the league.’
Drake says he wants to do ‘everything in my power to increase the brand and just grow the franchise.’
Look out for Drake’s new clothing line he will be releasing in conjunction with the team.
