LA’s Power 106 sat down with Kendrick Lamar after the release of his brand new single ‘I‘. In the excerpt below he discusses his controversial ‘Control’ verse and his relationships with the individuals he mentioned a year on.
UPDATE: The full interview is available now. He talks about working relationship with Dr. Dre, having a huge vault of music with first and new album and more. They also play a quick game in the end where K. Dot does badly.
He also revealed at the radio station that ‘I’ is not the first “single” from the album, but his first “statement.” We wonder what the September 23rd radio adds date is all about then.
UPDATE 2: Kendrick Lamar clarifies with NME that the song is the first single from his next album but from now on he will use the word “statement” instead.
“A lot of times people say ‘singles’, ‘first song,'” he commented. “But my initial goal every time I release new music is to make a statement, and that’s exactly what I want to do with this one. I’m replacing the word ‘single’ with ‘statement’ from now on.”
