[Saturday Spotlight] – Mi$tro, Bishop Nehru, LyQuin, O†ion + Cal Rips

Hello HHNMers! We took a little break from our Saturday Spotlight series last week but we’re back in a big way this weekend with not three, not four but five dope new artists that we feel deserve a look in the culture. Today, we bring you Mi$tro, Bishop Nehru, LyQuin, O†ion and Cal Rips. Enjoy!

Remember: We take submissions for this series. Please see guidelines here.

Mi$tro

First up is Virginia native Mi$tro who dropped his self-titled EP back in January. One of the songs on the project is ‘Head Honcho’ on which Mi$tro brags about making himself the plug and if the visual’s are any indication of hs lifestyle, he has much to feel bossy about. Watch the Joe Moore-directed video below.

Bishop Nehru

A lot of you will already be familiar with Bishop Nehru. The New York MC proved that he was no amateur in the game when he signed to Nas’ Mass Appeal Records and collaborated with MF DOOM. Now, he returns with the release of the 8-song Nehruvia: The Nehruvian EP. There’s just one feature on the project from Que Hampton and to go along with it, he’s released the video for ‘User$’ which you can check out here. The full EP is available for stream below.

LyQuin

Rapper LyQuin is buzzing in DC right now and one listen of his new song ‘Church’ is enough of a reason to understand it. It’s the first leak from his forthcoming mixtape which will be titled The Other Side and it’s shaping up to be solid. Kid Excluzive laces up the eerie beat which LyQuin sings and spits over so well. But that ain’t my business. Take a listen to ‘Church’ below.

O†ion

Our fourth pick for this weekend’s Saturday Spotlight is O†ion. It is a duo made up of the beautiful singer Savannah Moreau and veteran producer and engineer Fa†e whose name you might recognise because he produced for Arella Rocket who made it onto a recent edition of our series. The duo recently released their debut album Broken Bones which features Blu, Kevin Abstract, Anonymuz and Arella Rocket. Throughout the LP, Savannah sings impressively over the smooth production, making the perfect combination for a mellow listen.

Cal Rips

Finally is D.C. rapper Cal Rips. Cal just let loose with project District Of Corruption on which he delves into his own mind and struggles which come with the recent and unfortunate passings of his brother and mother. From the jump, the 6-track EP grabs listeners’ attention with the title track’s stand out production and Cal’s flow. Listen below and prepared to be engaged.
