Previous Story:

Tonight’s OVO Sound Radio is a special one. The last time DJ Semtex did an interview with Drake was 7 years ago around the release of Thank Me Later but tonight on the show, an interview is airing live and was dubbed by Oliver as the official More Life interview

We’ll update you as soon as the full interview is available but for now, head below for some key points.

On working with Dr. Dre: Drake tells the story of working with Dr. Dre and being kicked out of Detox sessions for celebrating a $10,000 check. He says he still has the hard copy (even though he cashed it) and showed it to Dre when he brought him out in LA almost 4 years ago.

On Kanye’s rant: Drake talks about Kanye’s rant about him and Khaled a few months ago in Sacramento. He says he doesn’t know why he went into it, doesn’t respect it and he’s since distanced himself.

“I don’t know, I think everybody has their own little things going on, I’m not really sure what he’s referring to half the time, cos in the same breath, I went from being… like working on a project with him, to him sorta publicly shitting on me and DJ Khaled for being on the radio too much. But yeah I’m not really sure, everybody’s got their own thing going on. Again me when I hear that, I just distance myself from it you know, alright if that’s what it is I don’t really even understand the point you’re trying to make but whatever it is that you’re going through, I accept it, I don’t respect it at all. You know cos I feel like me and Khaled are just good people, I’m not sure why we’re the target of your choice that you made that night. And yeah I accept what you’re going through, and I just go and continue working on my own thing. You know the more and more this progresses, the more and more I just feel like keeping to myself, cos its just so unpredictable, you never know which way people are gonna go. I mean streaming is the new record business, so yeah I guess you could call it digital politics, that’s kinda a good name for a song, I might have to do that when I get upstairs.”

On GRAMMYs: Drake says that someone from the GRAMMY panel told him to “blame Donald Trump” for not winning awards.

On Quentin Miller situation: Drake also explained the Quentin Miller situation; how he met him, Meek’s reason for the allegation and more. “He decide to create this narrative that I don’t write my own music… Anybody that was in those rooms, that worked on that project knows that I am one of the best writers period.” He also mentioned that DJ Drama and Cannon “f*cked (Quentin Miller’s) sh*t up” and said that some higher up called DJ Drama to leak the Quentin Miller reference tracks in order to help Meek. Drake did not clarify who the “higher up” is. Perhaps it’s Jay Z? Since Meek has a management deal with Roc Nation.

On beef with Meek Mill: “I’m sitting here thinking you’re ready for it… I thought this was like 3 months in the making. When I dropped ‘Charged Up’ just to see what the preparation level was I realised ‘you’re not ready'”. – Drake on Meek Mill lashing out. “I knew I had to retaliate because I realised he was unprepared.”

On ‘Back To Back’: “My biggest focus the entire time was ‘I cannot disrespect Nicki Minaj’… I respect revenge when it’s warranted and it was warranted. I’m not proud of it… It didn’t feel great but that’s what had to happen at the time.”

On Skepta: “I felt like he should just be bigger than he was. I think that the best rappers in the world are in London. I just think that the complexities and the cadences and the way that they piece music together… That’s been my formula for life is like ‘ok I’m gonna do the club sh*t but I’m also gonna give you bars.'”

Working in Giggs: Drake reveals that he has 4 songs with Giggs. 1 for Giggs’ project, 2 for More Life and 1 sitting around.

Also, Oliver hints that More Life will be premiered on the next episode of OVO Sound radio.
