Snoop Dogg Acquires Death Row Records

This week was already a massive one for Snoop Dogg. This Friday he releases his new album B.O.D.R. and on the weekend, he’ll take the stage at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show along with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar. This evening though, some more massive news has been announced for the Long Beach legend.

It has been revealed that Snoop Dogg has acquired Death Row Records from MNRK Music Group, formerly known as Koch Records and eOne Music. Of course, this would be a massive deal for anyone, but especially Snoop who came up on the label in the ’90s.

On the acquisition, Snoop said:

“I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value. It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members. This is an extremely meaningful moment for me. I would like to personally thank the teams at Blackstone, MNRK and especially David Kestnbaum, who worked collaboratively with me over several months to make this exciting homecoming a reality. I’m looking forward to building the next chapter of Death Row Records”

Although the terms of the deal were not revealed, Variety has reported that this is the first part of a transaction that will eventually see Snoop acquiring some of the label’s music rights, not limited to his own. This will happen in the coming weeks.
