Bad news for Meek Mill and I think he can blame himself for it.
Fans were expecting to see Meek Mill freed from prison in 3-4 weeks but that is unlikely to happen now. He was sentenced to 3 to 6 months of jail last week for violating his probation but according to Philly.com, the judge has rejected his lawyers’ request for an emergency hearing yesterday which means he won’t be free anytime soon.
His lawyers filed a petition last Thursday asking for the hearing within three days but Common Pleas Judge Genece Brinkley who sentenced the rapper to three to six months behind bars said her court schedule would not allow her to hold such a hearing until September. She has also rejected a request to allow another judge to hear the case.
Defense attorneys Christopher Warren and Dennis Cogan said that the the next legal move will come Monday when they file a writ of mandamus, which is an order asking a higher court to compel Brinkley to hold an emergency hearing. Meek’s probation was revoked because he had failed to provide his probation officer with a working phone number, used his Twitter account to disparage the officer and the prosecutor assigned to the case, booked out-of-town concerts without court permission, was “combative” and “disrespectful” to probation-office staffers and posed for a picture posted on Instagram holding a gun.
