Tip is enjoying his freedom as an independent artist and prepping the release of his next album The Dime Trap.
This will come after a 5 song EP called Da’ Nic that he released last month. While The Dime Trap will be “unadulterated trap”, he tells MTV that he is also working on the follow up to that which will complete the Trilogy.
Tip says that the third in that series after Paperwork and The Dime Trap is his own version of Kanye’s popular 2008 album 808s & Heartbreak. That sounds interesting.
On being an independent artist:
“Corporate structure is about X’s and O’s and dollars and cent. So if you take something that derives from a sincere feeling and a passionate origin and then you try to put it into this system of protocols and procures, it doesn’t fit. Either you break the machine that you’re trying to put it into, or you damage the form of the art that you’re trying to present.”
On album trilogy:
“Paperwork was the artsy blend of musical tones [incorporating] soulful R&B — a Blueprint–ish approach to an album. Da’ Nic and The Dime Trap [will be] unadulterated trap music and [the third album] will be my version of 808s and Heartbreak.”
