Chance The Rapper Talks First Meeting Kanye, Donald Trump Win & Working on Debut Album

 

Chance The Rapper was in the UK recently where he paid a visit to BCC 1Xtra studios. He stopped by their Live Lounge sessions and performed ‘All We Got’ from his Coloring Book project as well as a cover of Drake’s ‘Feel No Ways’.

Chance also sat down with DJ Semtex for a nearly half an hour long interview which has been released in full today. In the chat, Chance talks about first hearing Kanye’s music on the radio and how it inspired him to start rapping. He also talks about the first time he met him in person which was at the Made In America fest in L.A. in 2014. Chance also details working with ‘Ye in the studio on the song ‘Ultralight Beam’ for his The Life of Pablo album.

The conversation then shifts to Politics. The rapper talks about his father’s role as Obama’s campaign manager early on in the President’s career and how he felt when he took his father as his plus one to the White House recently. Chance discusses his thoughts on Donald Trump’s win and how he had a feeling he would win. “I’m scared of him,” says Chance when he expresses his frustrations with some of Trump’s statements and actions leading up to the election. When asked who he thinks would be the best rapper turned President, David Banner was his pick.

Towards the end, Chance discusses his future plans with music. He reveals that most people have mistaken his mixtapes so far as his “albums” but he’s now finally working on a proper studio album which will feel different from his previous releases. Watch the full interview below.

Chance has reportedly canceled the rest of his European tour citing “personal reasons.”
