Kanye West’s ‘The Life of Pablo’ Becomes First Streaming Only Album To Be Certified Platinum

Kanye West has achieved yet another rare feat. His latest album The Life of Pablo has become the first album to be certified platinum from streaming only.

The album, which was released on February 14th exclusively through TIDAL, has earned a Platinum certification from the RIAA for consumption of over 1 million equivalent units, according to a press release from Def Jam Records. The album has been streamed over 3 billion times worldwide. Last year, TLOP had become the first streaming-only album to reach #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, and the seventh #1 album of Kanye’s career.

The GRAMMY nominated album was presented in a “living” form with Kanye issuing updates and new versions of certain songs over a period of several months after its initial release. It was released on other services like Spotify and Apple Music two weeks after the exclusive drop, despite Kanye initially promising that it will not be available anywhere else.
