Kendrick Lamar’s fourth studio album DAMN. is on course to sell approximately 560k copies in the first week, making it the highest opening week debut of 2017. The earlier record was held by Drake’s More Life with 505k.
We’re loving the album, along with millions of other fans across the world. K.Dot hasn’t done any press at all this era but Apple was able to convince him for an exclusive sit down with Beats 1’s Zane Lowe that we have been looking forward to hearing. It took place in Indio, California while Kendrick was headlining the Coachella festival this past weekend.
Kendrick spoke on making of the album and how he switches himself off once he turns the masters in, why execution of the ideas in your head is so important, 80% of the material being premeditated, being inspired by legends like Jay Z, Eminem and Tupac, love for twisting and manipulating words, how much he loves Hip-Hop, why he came into the game to be the best, importance of songs like ‘Alright’, Donald Trump as a subject on the album, the crazy story on ‘DUCKWORTH.’ and much more. Zane asked Kendrick about the hidden meaning behind the intro (‘BLOOD.’) to the album but K.Dot said he can’t reveal it.
