It’s been seven years since the release of David Banner’s last studio album Death of a Pop Star but on May 19, he’s back with his new one The God Box. It was originally planned to release in June but has now been pushed up to this Friday.
Today, the producer-rapper unveils the opening song from the album, ‘Magnolia’ which is dedicated to his home state of Mississippi. CeeLo Green and Raheem DeVaughn assist Banner on the powerful song about which he told HNHH: ‘The song represents the relationship of trees in Mississippi and Africans throughout history.” Banner told Hotnewhiphop. “The taller the tree, the broader the story, the shorter the tree, the more personal the perspective is. My verse is about the relationship of the magnolia tree and African’s during slavery.”
