J. Cole’s new album KOD has debuted at the number 1 spot on the Billboard 200 by selling 395k copies in the first week. This is the North Carolina rapper’s fifth straight number 1 LP.
KOD doesn’t feature any radio friendly songs but if we see the past trend with last two albums — ‘No Role Modelz & ‘Wet Dreamz’ from 2014 Forrest Hills Drive and ‘Deja Vu’ from 4 Your Eyez Only — even songs which aren’t the typical commercial ones have managed to do well on the radio for him. This time, the rapper has picked the title track ‘KOD’ as the lead single from the album which is being serviced to stations countrywide this week.
The song broke Spotify’s record for the biggest opening day last week after it was streamed 4.2 million times by fans. So far, J. Cole has released music videos for the song ‘ATM‘ and ‘Kevin’s Heart‘ so our guess is ‘KOD’ will be the next one to receive video treatment.
Earlier this week, J. Cole became the first artist to debut three songs simultaneously inside the top 10 of Billboard Hot 100.
