Last month, Swizz Beatz dropped a buzz single ‘It’s Okayyy‘ and hinted that he will release his new album Poison on July 20th.
Today in a new interview with Pitchfork, he has shared some details on the kind of songs he has been working on lately. The veteran New York producer revealed that Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Lil Wayne, Pusha-T, Young Thug, 2 Chainz, the Lox, Giggs, Jim Jones, and more will appear on the forthcoming album. “You can hear the passion from everyone on the record; they wanted to be a part of it,” he said. “It wasn’t a transaction. When you hear other features on a lot of projects, it feels like a transaction. You’re either chasing hype or it’s a transaction.”
Swizz also revealed that he made a full length album with Nas but it was never released. “I did his album two years ago in one week in L.A. In the studio every day at 12 o’clock, just bang bang bang. Recorded the whole thing, got it all on film. It was an ill process.” Swizz described the Nas songs as “super crazy, maniac shit.” A song featuring Kanye West and Bono exists as well but it will probably make the cut on a future album.
The producer further shared that he has 4 more albums in the works after Poison: an R&B album, an “energy” album (“You want to go to the gym? You want to be motivated? You press play on this shit”), an “acoustics” album, (“It’s just vibes. It’s just for Sundays,”) and a “global” album featuring international artists.
