Drake, The Weeknd Donate $600k to Black Lives Matter Organizations

Drake and The Weeknd have made major contributions in support of different Black Lives Matters related organizations in light of protests in the U.S. following George Floyd’s death.

The donations came after poet/artist Mustafa Ahmed, also known as Mustafa the Poet, shared on Instagram that he personally donated $400 to the National Bail Out fund, an organization that aids in freeing those arrested while protesting the death of George Floyd. He then challenged Canadian superstars The Weeknd and Drake to match him by adding a few zeroes at the end.

“They just called fraud on my card LOL,” Drake said. “I donated 100K. They were like nah ” Drake joked after the transaction did not go through, presumably because of the hefty sum. Mustafa shared a receipt confirming Drake’s $100,000 donation which you can see above.

The Weeknd also took to Instagram to show his solidarity and share some receipts of the total $500k donation he made on June 1.

“Keep supporting our brothers and sisters out there, risking everything to push for actual change for our black lives,” the Canadian superstar wrote. “[I’m] urging everyone with big pockets to give and give big, and if you have less, please give what you can even if it’s a small amount,” he continued, adding the hashtag #blacklivesmatter.

Abel has donated a total of $500k to various charities to aid the Black Lives Matter movement, including $100,000 to National Bail Out, $200k to the Black Lives Matter Global Network and an additional $200K to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Foundation.
