Robin Thicke is set to release his new album On Earth, and in Heaven on Feb. 12 which will mark his first one in about 6 years. It will be his first project under a new partnership between Lucky Music and EMPIRE.
The singer is currently doing some promo for the album and the latest single ‘Lucky Star‘ for which he made a stop on Zane Lowe’s show on Apple Music. Thicke discussed losing his father Alan Thicke and mentor Andre Harrell, massive success of ‘Blurred Lines’, losing his home in the California fires, end of marriage to Paula Patton, toxic habits, and more.
The singer also revealed that in Andre Harrell’s absence, he reached out to Jay-Z to help finalize the tracklist for the album and receive some A&R advice. “Well, actually, because I didn’t have Andre to help me with the final track listing, I reached out to Jay,” he said after talking about a song that sounds like it’s produced by Dr. Dre. “And I said, ‘Hey, I don’t have Andre. Would you mind stepping in this time to help me with the track listing?’ And Jay gave me the greatest A&R advice. Went through each track, sent me a little note about each track.”
“And the good thing was, I didn’t even tell him because I was kind of sure I didn’t need two or three records, but I sent him all of them to see if he said the same thing. And he said the exact same thing. “You don’t need these three records. And I was like, “Okay, I’m on to something.” And so that kind of sealed it for me because I needed one other opinion that I respected that much, to give me that last sign that I knew I wasn’t crazy,” he continued. “I feel like I’m finally the person I set out to be. I’m able to laugh at anything, which I’ve realized is the greatest superpower. I’ve fully embraced it, and nothing has been better for my soul,” Thicke said previously in a press statement about his album. “When I saw the phrase On Earth, and in Heaven, I realized that’s what I’m singing about: the people who aren’t here and the people who are here that made me who I am. This music is the sunshine coming out after the rain.”
