NBA YoungBoy has been behind bars since April over firearm-related charges.
The rapper was finally granted bond in the case after the judge in Baton Rouge, Louisiana signed the bond release on Friday, October 22, agreeing to a house arrest in Utah with military guards for him. The Advocate reported that YoungBoy’s record label had promised to build a recording studio in the Utah residence which would allow the rapper to continue making music while in confinement.
Chief U.S. District Judge Shelly Dick said that the rapper, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, must post a $1.5 million property bond or put $500,000 cash into a trust account of his attorneys before he can be released to home confinement.
YoungBoy’s legal team has confirmed that bail has been set but there’s another case in L.A. which has prevented the hitmaker’s release. Andre Belanger, an attorney for the Youngboy said he also must make an appearance next week before a judge in Los Angeles on a charge of felon in possession of a firearm. He would have to be released on bond there before he can begin his house arrest in Utah on his Louisiana weapons charges.
A gun was found in his possession when he was arrested in California on the Louisiana charges which has created the complication around his release.
Belanger said he expects prosecutors to fight for Gaulden’s detention in California but remains “cautiously optimistic” that he will get the same relief as granted by Baton Rouge judge, reports The Advocate.
