[Saturday Spotlight] Tyler Loyal + YellowBunny

Welcome back to another edition of Saturday Spotlight following a few weeks break. Excuse us as we had to recalibrate and re-group.

Each week we review submissions from all over the globe, picking the best out of the batch to highlight at the end of the week. If you’re an aspiring rapper, a producer wanting to create a buzz, or a singer looking to expose their talent, the Saturday Spotlight series is dedicated to discovering the next star.

Whether it’s your latest single or a new beat you made, all upcoming artists can submit music to us for Saturday Spotlight on this link.

Tyler Loyal

On ‘Still Mine’, Boston’s Tyler Loyal has mastered the balance of commercial-level catchiness alongside in-depth lyrics. His first single of 2022, the Hip-Hop/Trap-Soul track displays well-crafted penmanship in telling the story of love gone wrong with loss, anger, and revenge.

The beginning verse is as relatable as it gets: “Lookin through your socials, praying that I find a sign/Get fed up and I call you, but you go and press decline/I called you out your name, but don′t call me outta mine/Cause I get outta line.”

Tyler Loyal’s voice rides comfortably on the beat, with seemingly effortless flows and vocal runs. Harmonies and well-placed breaks demonstrate Tyler has been honing his craft for years — and with his upcoming EP, we can expect to see more.

YellowBunny

Hailing from Vancouver, YellowBunny shares her struggles with addiction and depression on ‘Pressure Pt. 2’. With flawless delivery in a calm but powerful tone, YellowBunny takes us through the difficult past that triggered her current state.

The most impressive aspect of the track is YellowBunny’s ability to be painfully vulnerable and honest without compromising her integrity — her flow demonstrates control not only over her skill, but her emotions. Her melodies elevate the depth of her bars: “I just wanna sail on the high notes/Fly get by everyday wanna die though.”

Although the lack of a solid hook makes this track feel more like a stream of consciousness, YellowBunny’s penmanship and musicality have a compelling quality that makes ‘Pressure Pt. 2’ worthy of being on repeat.
