[Saturday Spotlight] Donnie Vibe$ + Koda

Welcome back to another edition of Saturday Spotlight. Each week we review submissions from all over the globe, picking the best out of the batch to highlight at the end of the week. If you’re an aspiring rapper, a producer wanting to create a buzz, or a singer looking to expose their talent, Saturday Spotlight is dedicated to discovering the next star. This week, we received over 40 unique submissions, below are the two picks!

Whether it’s your latest single or a new beat you made, all upcoming artists can submit music to us for Saturday Spotlight on this link.

Donnie Vibe$

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Donnie Vibe$ is music you’ll enjoy listening to if you’re a fan of the likes of Isaiah Rashad or Ab Soul. Having started music in 2017, the artist has been steadily building his catalogue with a vast array of projects and singles. His latest release, ‘Mississippi’, is a dark, gritty display of penmanship and flow. Over a dark instrumental, Donnie Vibe$ comments on his environment, his love interest, and even his own mental state. “I guess that you miss me but I be so stuck in my ways/Shit I’ll just call it a phase/I’ll hit you when I’m on the way.”

Koda

Artist Koda is ironically bringing the heat with his latest single, ‘ICE’. Being the first release of 2022, it follows the success of his previous drop ‘Frozen’, which has amassed over 73K streams for the growing independent artist. On ‘ICE’, KODA opts for a guitar melody accompanied by a dark, sensual synth with a chilling effect. Though the instrumental is deliberately simple, Koda compensates for this with catchy melodies and flow. Koda’s vocals are smooth, complete with impressive runs and riffs that certainly make him a songwriter to watch.
