[Saturday Spotlight] Jo Majesty + Dula-Mite

Welcome back to another edition of Saturday Spotlight. Each week we review submissions from all over the globe, picking the best out of the batch to highlight at the end of the week. If you’re an aspiring rapper, a producer wanting to create a buzz, or a singer looking to expose their talent, Saturday Spotlight is dedicated to discovering the next star. This week, we received over 45 submissions, below are the two picks!

Whether it’s your latest single or a new beat you made, all upcoming artists can submit music to us for Saturday Spotlight on this link.

Jo Majesty

Confident, sultry, and powerful, Jo Majesty‘s smooth, laid-back tone is a slick contrast to her punchy flow and flexing bars. Her inflections are subtle, with a controlled delivery that serves a tight hype impossible not to vibe to. Hailing from New York, the talented rapper has found influence in the likes of Jay Z, Nicki Minaj, Foxy Brown, and LL Cool J. As a result, that high-roller city swag is ingrained in her sonic energy. In ‘I Got the Juice’, Jo Majesty establishes herself as a talent and woman not to be toyed with.

Listen to the track below.

Dula-Mite

Dula-Mite‘s ‘Cocoa Melanin’ is as coated in velvet and honey as the name would suggest. Reminiscent of RnB in the late 90s and early 2000s, Dula-Mite’s latest single is a lesson not just in sensuality, but in songwriting. The artist displays a practiced pen in metaphors and euphemisms, with earworm melodies that give the song impeccable replay value.

Aside from a harmonic hook that melts into you, it’s the instrumental that really sets the track apart. Musical and pleasing to even the most cynical of purists, the keys lick that loops throughout the track floats through the drums, with elements of flute that give the track an airy feel. This, in contrast with Dula-Mite’s gravelly rap vocals, gives ‘Cocoa Melanin’ a distinct sound.
