50 Cent is partnering with his old mates at Lionsgate to launch a podcast based on El Chapo.
Lionsgate has launched a new division called Lionsgate Sound, which will operate as a full-service podcast production company. The studio behind “John Wick,” “The Hunger Games” and Starz, has entered the podcasting space for the first time. Lionsgate Sound will launch with four shows which includes a podcast from 50 Cent about the two brothers who helped bring down the notorious drug lord El Chapo.
The podcast is tentatively titled Cuate/twin: The Downfall of El Chapo, which 50 Cent originally pitched as a TV series before opting to team with Lionsgate for a podcast.
The podcast will feature the first-ever interviews with Chicago-born identical twins Peter and Jay Flores, two of America’s biggest drug smugglers who trafficked their way into Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s inner circle. They later turned themselves in to DEA to avoid life sentences. The duo made a deal with the feds to inform on El Chapo, with taped conversations between the brothers and the drug lord causing his undoing.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson and the other talented creators behind our upcoming shows,” said producer Craig Piligian, a minority owner in Lionsgate Sound. “With our strong lineup out of the gate, we are well-positioned to reach the next generation of consumers.”
