It’s that time of the year when we look at the best selling albums of 2023 in terms of overall consumption.
Country star Morgan Wallen’s third album, One Thing at a Time leads the Top 50 YTD Albums chart with more than 5m total streams since its March release. SZA’s SOS (TDE/RCA) and Taylor Swift’s Midnights (Republic) follow at #2 and #3, respectively.
Interestingly, Morgan Wallen and Taylor Swift occupy 4 of the top 5 spots on the chart. Moreover, Taylor has two more albums in the top 10 — Lover at #6 and Speak Now (Taylor’s version) at #8. Travis Scott and Metro Boomin are the only two rap albums in the top 10 this year.
There are a couple of old but highly consumed releases from the hip hop world here as well — Eminem’s Curtain Call at #38 and Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid m.A.A.d City at #43. Take a look at the full chart below (via HDD).
Market share wise, UMG takes 64% followed by Sony Music Entertainment at 24%, Warner Music Group with 11% and others (labels and independent) at 1%.
