southpaw film

Jake Gyllenhaal may have replaced Eminem in the leading role of the upcoming sports drama film Southpaw but he’s still contributing to the film in the form of music.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua(Training Day) and written by Kurt Sutter, Southpaw also stars Rachel McAdams, Naomie Harris and Em’s friend 50 Cent who can also been seen in the trailer below. The exact title of the song that comes on in the end of the clip is not confirmed but it is rumored to be ‘Phenomenal’.

Billy “The Great” Hope (Gyllenhaal) is the reigning Junior Middleweight Champion whose unorthodox stance, the so-called “Southpaw,” consists of an ineloquent, though brutal, display of offensive fighting…one fueled by his own feelings of inadequacy and a desperate need for love, money and fame. With a beautiful family, home and financial security, Billy is on top both in and out of the ring until a tragic accident leaves his wife dead and sends him into a downward spiral. His days now an endless haze of alcohol and prescription drugs, his daughter taken by Child Services and his home repossessed by the bank, Billy’s fate is all but sealed until a washed up former boxer named Tick agrees to take the bereaved pugilist under his wing so long as he agrees to his strict ethos. Relentless and utterly committed to a fighter that thinks as much as he throws punches, Tick rebuilds Billy into a new man: one that is agile, fearsome and uncompromising in the ring while thoughtful, loving and disciplined outside of it. Now, as he works to regain custody of his daughter and mounts a professional comeback, Billy must face his demons head-on as he learns that, sometimes, your greatest opponent can be yourself.

New day, new achievement.

It’s becoming increasingly hard for artists in any genre, especially rappers, to sell a million copies of their albums. The introduction of the Sales Plus Streams system has been a big help for all.

This past week, 52,288 copies of If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late were sold (including streams) which means that including streams overall, over 1,000,000 copies of the project have officially been sold. Yep. And the physicals aren’t even out – yet.

T-Pain’s done a solid job of building hype and attention for this mixtape over the past few weeks and finally just two days before its release, he lets go of the official tracklist. It features Lil Wayne, Aaliyah, Big K.R.I.T., Bun B, The-Dream and lots more. Hit the jump.

drake-to-sell-physical-copies-of-iyrtitlThis started out as just a rumour but it now looks to be true. Drake’s “mixtape” If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late has done far better than most people’s albums, breaking numerous records and selling hundreds of thousands of copies. It has recently been announced that on April 21st, physical copies of the project will be distributed.

This hard copy will feature two new tracks not on the original tracklist – ‘How Bout Now‘ which he released in October last year and a brand new song called ‘My Side’.

Earlier today Action Bronson and Earl Sweashirt came together in celebration of releasing albums on ‘Warlord Leather‘.

The first week sales projections for both of the albums are now in. HDD reports that Action Bronson leads between the two with an estimation of 37k-42k copies sold in the first week and Earl is not too far behind with projections of 30k-35k.

It’s been public knowledge for a while now that A$AP Rocky’s album is finished and called A.L.L.A. but no-one knew for sure what the acronym stood for. Rocky has now revealed that his album is titled At.Long.Last.A$AP. Here’s what he had to say about that name:

I’m claiming ownership of my legacy. Look at it: At.Long.Last.A$AP. A-L-L-A. Like slang for ‘Allah.’ It’s the return of the god MC. I’m named after Rakim, and I’m finally facing what it means: I was born to do this shit. And I hope I get to do it for a very long time.

Check out the full story here. He also rapped a never-before-heard verse for GQ. Listen after the break.
