Baauer’s ‘Harlem Shake’ Becomes 21st Song In Billboard Hot 100 History To Debut At #1

If you didn’t believe the ‘Harlem Shake’ hype till now, here’s the wake up call. Brooklyn producer Baauer’ song ‘Harlem Shake‘ which has spawned thousands of viral videos worldwide (including those of Fat Joe & French Montana) becomes the 21st song in Billboard’s history to debut at #1 on Hot 100. It’s safe to say that Baauer, who is signed to DJ/Producer Diplo’s label Mad Decent was quite an unknown to the music world before this song.

The single sold 262k copies this week and gained major spins on the radio but the main reason for its rare achievement is that YouTube streaming data was counted for the first time this week, according to the new Billboard policies.
