Madonna & Stevie Wonder Perform Prince Tribute at 2016 Billboard Music Awards

 

Prince was honored tonight at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas and rightfully so.

First up, Questlove took the stage and delivered a short speech for his late friend who passed away last month, in the following words: “I want to take a moment to remember the great Prince Rogers Nelson,” said The Roots drummer before asking for a moment of silence. “It can be a moment of silence, but inside our heads, it should be anything but silent.”

Madonna then hit the stage to perform the legendary artist’s song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ in a purple attire and was shortly joined by Stevie Wonder as a surprise guest. The two belted out ‘Purple Rain’ in an emotional performance which you can watch below.

A big section of social media did not like the tribute and BET was quick to throw some shade at Billboard:
