Kendrick Lamar Confirms ‘DAMN.’ Was Meant To Be Played Backwards

Kendrick Lamar’s latest album DAMN. has been a huge success, contending for the number 1 spot even 19 weeks after its release. When the set came out, many fans came up with the theory that apart from the regular order, it was supposed to be played backwards as well. Now for the first time, K.Dot has confirmed that he indeed made the album like that.

“I think like a week after the album came out, they realized you can play the album backwards,” he told MTV News. “It plays as a full story and even a better rhythm. It’s one of my favorite rhythms and tempos within the album. It’s something that we definitely premeditate while we’re in the studio.”

“I don’t think the story necessarily changes, I think the feel changes,” he said. “The initial vibe listening from the top all the way to the bottom is … this aggression and this attitude. You know, ‘DNA,’ and exposing who I really am. You listen from the back end, and it’s almost the duality and the contrast of the intricate Kendrick Lamar. Both of these pieces are who I am.”

There were also rumors that the TDE rapper will release a new album a week after DAMN. but he had shot that report down. Last month, he released the music video for his song ‘LOYALTY’ featuring Rihanna.
