There was a time when Kanye took the autotune torch from T-Pain and ran crazy with it, and now, years later, we see that kind of innovation from Don Toliver. Ye and Toliver linked up on the song ‘OK’ off Ye’s latest album Bully, and the result was something phenomenal.
A choppy, stuttery hook over a repeating, minimalist melodic motif, till the 808s kick in with distortion, cascading into a well built up drop — the sound was infectious. It left fans wondering what seeing them together on video might be like, especially considering Kanye’s propensity to go all out in his music videos. That wait, too, has come to an end today.
The two heavyweights have finally released the music video for ‘OK,’ featuring absurd and attention grabbing surrealist techniques that is a forte with Kanye. From Ye’s head being taken off and placed on a body to the clinical white and metal tones in the video, the whole thing just fits together like an interesting puzzle. It’s directed by Ye’s wife Bianca Censori.
It is like they took the Frankenstein trope and made it futuristic enough to go with the sonics of what the two created for Ye’s album. Check out the video below (only available on Spotify and Apple for now).
