A lot of talk has gone around the e-streets about new Hip-Hop artists trying to sound like the next guy, most specifically some of the new Trap artists trying to be the “next Future.” Desiigner and Fetty Wap are the names which come to mind immediately — their sounds have been compared with Future’s every now and then.
In a new interview with Highsnobiety, with whom he’s done a cover story, Future says that too many artists are trying to sound like everybody and people like those will have no longevity in the game. “Some people try to be everybody, so that’s why they burn out,” says the rapper who had back to back number 1 albums, self titled and HNDRXX earlier this year. “There’s longevity in being yourself and not trying to be 10 other people,” continued Future.
Future also talked about how the sound in modern era changes every three months. “Music will change in just three months, so if I go to Europe for a whole three months and come back, the music scene will be completely different. I just try to stay in tune with what’s going on: I keep my eyes open for the new artists, listen to new melodies on the radio; pay attention to the tempos playing in the clubs.”
