[Saturday Spotlight] Montreal Artist Shades Lawrence

In case you missed the memo, we re-launched our Saturday Spotlight series last week and the inaugural spot was occupied by DMV rapper Des.

We are back with the second edition today where we travel to Montreal, Canada to throw some shine on Shades Lawrence. She is a multi faceted personality who is not only a spoken word artist and rapper but also a DJ. She also regularly organizes and co-presents events with Café Co-op (grassroots collective of mental health advocates), Sister Singer (showcase of women and non-binary musical talent in Montreal) and more organizations.

Her new single ‘Turn My Head’ featuring Emma Maryam is a queer love song with a throwback sound reminiscent of early 2000s. It is the first release off her forthcoming EP Second Life, due later this year. We really like this, stream it below.

The best submission from an upcoming artist in a given week will get posted on our website every Saturday. We have also decided that an artist who’s never been covered before by an outlet will get priority.
