DMX continues to be on life support after reportedly suffering drug overdose on Saturday, which led to a heart attack.
The overdose occurred at his home at around 11 PM which triggered a heart attack, TMZ had reported. The legendary rapper was rushed to a hospital in White Plains, New York and was under critical care.
DMX’s attorney, Murray Richman initially told WPIX that the rapper was off life support and was breathing on his own. He added that he was currently “surrounded by family” and was in “grave condition.”
“I’m very sad about it, extremely sad. He’s like my son,” Richman told the television station. “He’s just a tremendous person, tremendous entertainer, tremendous human being. And so much to offer, so much to say. Not the run-of-the-mill rapper. A person of great depth.”
But he later changed his statement, saying he misspoke. Richman and a spokesperson for DMX said they misspoke earlier when they said the rapper had been taken off life support and was breathing on his own. He continues to be on life support as per the latest development.
DMX’s family has also issued a statement on his condition (via VladTV):
“We are issuing this statement to combat all the false and misleading reports that are circulating on social media. Last night Earl “DMX” Simmons was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home. At this time he remains in ICU in critical condition. Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents yet another road he must cross.
The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support and prayers for Earl. Earl is someone whose life and music has been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world. It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need.”
