Diddy is one of the most successful entrepreneurs out of music in history who has had great success with various business ventures. But it looks like he wants to go back to his first love: music.
The mogul recently announced his new album Off The Grid Vol. 1 that he’s releasing in September — 24th to be exact. Now in a new interview with Vanity Fair, Puff reveals that he’s also planning to start a new R&B label.
“I’m coming back into music, you know?” the rapper said, before expanding on his plans. “Yeah, all R&B label, because I feel like R&B was abandoned and it’s a part of our African American culture.” He further added that he will be more in a partnership with the artists he works with as opposed to signing them. “And I’m not signing any artists. Because if you know better, you do better. I’m doing 50–50 partnerships with pure transparency. That’s the thing. [The new label is so that] we can own the genre; we don’t own hip-hop right now. We have a chance to—and I’m going to make sure that—we own R&B,” he said, with the announcement even surprising his team during the interview.
Diddy also addressed the photo with Jennifer Lopez that he posted to Instagram recently. He said it was innocent and was just toasting to a good time in his life.. “It wasn’t no trolling involved, that’s just my friend,” he told Vanity Fair. “And I don’t have nothing to say about her relationship or her life.”
