Lupe Fiasco Calls New Album His ‘Illmatic’, Reveals He Recorded A New ‘Mural’ Song

Lupe Fiasco has been working on his latest album, the majority of which he recorded in 24 hours. He’s shared some of the process on IG Live and you can check out him recording part of a verse below.

Lupe’s said that once he’s done with the project, he’s going to send it straight to get engineered and then it’s up to his distribution label to release it. Keeping hopeful, it looks like we could get a new Lupe album in the next month or two. Throughout the process, he’s taken to Twitter to give fans update about it.

Late last night, he tweeted ‘Ms. Mural’, a song which he teased a few years ago. He then followed it up saying that he’d completed the trilogy, which of course started on Tetsuo & Youth and continued on DROGAS Wave. It’s unlikely that the song will appear on his new album because he’s been working on it for a while. But this is the kind of news that sends fans into a frenzy.

A tweet of his from a few minutes ago is also very interesting. He tweeted that this new album is his Illmatic, which should get any Hip-Hop head excited. He went out of his way to clarify that he’s not exaggerating. There’s no word on what he means specifically, but he’s likely talking about the style of the body of work (like it being 10 tracks) as opposed to relative to his discography… but we’re not doubting him either. It also looks like the album is produced entirely by Soundtrakk.

We can’t wait for this to drop!
