Mother of late rap legend Tupac Shakur, Afeni Shakur Davis has died.
Marin County deputies responded to Shakur’s home in Sausalito, California Monday night after she suffered a possible cardiac arrest. She was taken to a local hospital and died just before 10:30 p.m, reports NY Daily News. She was 69 years old.
She was born Alice Faye Williams but changed her name and moved to New York City to join the Black Panther movement. She and other party members were arrested in 1969 and charged with conspiracy to bomb multiple, busy city landmarks. She was later acquitted in May, 1971 and gave birth to Tupac Shakur just a month after that.
She was the subject of one of Pac’s most iconic songs, ‘Dear Mama‘ and the current manager of the rapper’s estate which earns about $900k per year. She was also serving as an executive producer for the upcoming 2Pac biopic All Eyez on Me which is due to release in November.
Rest in peace.
