UPDATE: The first week numbers are in. Kevin Gates comes in with 71,422 (14,970 pure) copies of I’M HIM sold, putting him at #4.
Young M.A debuts at #17 with 22,219 copies of Herstory In The Making sold and 5,454 coming from pure sales.
Previous story:
Kevin Gates released his sophomore album I’M HIM this past Friday didn’t feature a single guest appearance. He had the same strategy with his debut album Islah which is now certified double platinum.
This time around, Gates did not have a hit single on the charts and the promo was evidently restricted which seems to have affected the numbers. I’M HIM is projected to move approximately 60-65k copies in the first week with about 9-11k out of that coming from pure sales, reports HDD. This should give him a spot around number 4 or 5 on the Billboard 200 chart this week.
This is almost a 100% drop from his previous effort — Islah sold 112k copies in the first week at retail back in 2016.
Young M.A. had the other big Hip-Hop album release on Friday. She finally released her debut album Herstory in the Making which is on course to do about 20k copies in the first week and manage a top 20 spot. As we reported earlier, DaBaby’s new album KIRK is set to hit the top spot this week with about 150k units in the first week, unseating Post Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding which has spent three weeks at the pole position.
Will Kanye disrupt everything by dropping his Jesus is King album before the tracking week ends? It is unlikely but it’s ‘Ye so you just never know.
