During last Friday’s Queen radio, Nicki Minaj spoke about her return to limelight and expanded on the new label she’s been building.
Nicki said that she doesn’t want to reveal the name of her label yet but she did tell listeners the first four artists she’s signing. First up is Ghanaian singer Nana Fofie, who was also present in the studio with Nicki as she did her Queen Radio broadcast.
Then there’s Jamaica’s Skeng, who was recently seen shooting a music video with Nicki during her Carnival vacation in her homeland of Trinidad & Tobago. Nicki had released a remix of ‘Likkle Miss Remix‘ with Skeng last September.
Bronx emcee London Hill, and rising rapper Rico Danna are the other two artists who have signed on to Nicki’s imprint.
“Y’all know how I do shit for people. That’s not even signed to me. Imagine what I’m going to do to the ones that signed,” Nicki said during the episode.
“When I came in this game I didn’t have no paperwork with Lil Wayne. But he had us on tour, he had us in a studio, he was getting on my mixtapes. So I understand the importance of having somebody else doing the heavy lifting for you. I understand why people are coming out and they’re so, you know, microwaveable and they’re here today and gone tomorrow, because there’s no structure. There’s no real person that believes in them. That’s like, ‘nah, I’m gonna make it my business to see you shine’. That’s why I never wanted to do a label before because I said to myself …unless I’m ready to really put these artists on I’m not gonna ruin anyone’s life.”
