What’s up HHNM readers? Today’s Saturday, which means we’re back with another edition of our Saturday Spotlight series. We’ve seen and heard some awesome upcoming talent through our Saturday Spotlight series and we feel that it’s our duty to continue to support those deserving of it.
With that being said, we’d like to introduce you to 5 up and coming emcees who really grabbed our attention this week — Nick Menn, Black Zheep, Anyextee, Kay SAV, and Nikko Lafre. Enjoy!
Remember: We take submissions for this series. Please see the guidelines here.
Nick Menn
First up is St. Louis emcee Nick Menn who comes through with his unique-sounding track ‘Necessary’ featuring the outspoken Killer Mike. The instrumentation that Bentley Hendrixx used on the beat is captivating to say the least, and Nick and Killer Mike’s lyrical wordplay clashes it with quite nicely. ‘Necessary’ will live on Nick’s forthcoming project Goon Road: Hill Two. In the mean time, check out this new release and cop Goon Road: Hill One, the first installment, here.
Black Zheep
Residing in Baltimore, MD, next up is the talented Black Zheep, who has just released his smooth new project titled Refugee. The 15-track tape consists of honest and introspective lyrics, which allows us to take a journey in Zheep’s shoes. Some stand out tracks include the title track (intro), ‘Shoot First’, and ‘Cable Man’, but don’t sleep on the rest of the tape — the soulful offering is worth a full listen. Stream/Download below.
Anyextee
Next up we have CEO-turned rapper named Anyextee and his dope new video titled ‘Executive Decisions’. Anyextee is the CEO of Amalgam Digital and as you can hear at the end of his last verse, Any’s had some heavy involvement in the industry with the likes of Joe Budden and Max B. This !llmind-produced track on the other hand, shows us why Anyextee decided to take his talents to the mic as well. Be on the lookout for his forthcoming project expected out on February 25th and for now, enjoy the video directed by Seba Films below.
Kay SAV
Growing up in both New Jersey and Chicago, I’d like to introduce you to the intelligent, and very talented Kay SAV, who has dropped off his 4-track EP titled The Collection. As the title implies, SAV gives us a ‘collection’ of 4 diverse tracks, with each of them encompassing a different cover art to help explain the direction of the song — unique, and excellent idea. Kay has a very intriguing sound and by listening to his lyrics (which is a lost art these days!), you can see the complexity of his mind. Stream the 4 tracks below and support Kay by purchasing the EP on his website.
Nikko Lafre
Last, but certainly not least, is Minnesota’s own Nikko Lafre who drops off the intro track to his forthcoming project Survival: Face The World. The gritty instrumental provided by Jabarrie serves as a great backdrop for Nikko to spit some fiery and meaningful bars. Get hip to Nikko below and be on the lookout for the aforementioned project — you won’t be disappointed.
