Wow. The end of an era has come.
Known as “The Voice Of New York”, Hot 97’s very own Angie Martinez announced her resignation from the urban radio station today via an Instagram post. She hasn’t said what she intends on doing from here, but we can assume it’ll be something major. Hopefully at least. Here’s what Angie had to say about the decision:
“Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show. stay tuned…. Love, angie”
Interestingly so, Hot 97’s rival Pow 105 quote tweeted Angie’s announcement tweet by adding a smiley emjoi. Who knows what their intentions were, but wouldn’t that be something if she goes to the other side? Doubtful, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Thank you to Angie Martinez for all of the memories at Hot 97 and good luck on your next adventure!
UPDATE: It has been confirmed that the Voice Of NY will remain in NY as Angie Martinez has accepted a job at Power 105.1. The daily lineup will be as follows: The Breakfast Club – Mornings – 5:30 AM – 10:00 AM; DJ Prostyle – Middays – 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM; Angie Martinez – Afternoons – 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM; and DJ Clue – Evenings – 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM. Although shocking, New Yorkers should be happy to know that Angie is here to stay.
UPDATE 2: We have Angie’s final show ever on Hot 97 in its entirety. Reminisce with the Voice Of New York one last time after the break.
