What’s going on HHNMers? We’re back today with a brand new edition of our Saturday Spotlight series, where we take a step back from the mainstream news and shine the light on notable upcomers who caught our eye this past week. Today we’ll hear from Chris Jones, SHA, chief waKiL and Amir Obe who all give us something to be excited about. Enjoy!
Remember: We take submissions for this series. Please see guidelines here.
Chris Jones
First up today is New York native Chris Jones and his seductive new track ‘Sex In The Kitchen’ produced by Newo Tha Kid. Switching gears from his previous single “Always Have That”, Chris delves into the freaky side of his persona and samples R.Kelly in this catchy new tune. Jones is prepping his forthcoming project titled Keys To Success, which will hopefully be out sooner than later. Until then, get lost in the waviness that is ‘Sex In The Kitchen’ below.
SHA
Also coming out of the Big Apple, next up is a promising femcee named SHA who brings along with her a new video for her lyrical demolition known as ‘The Migration.’ With boom bap producer Razah Adé taking care of the 1s and 2s, SHA shows off her strong lyrical presence, all while giving us substance within her bars — something most would say is lost from today’s culture. Watch the captivating video below.
chief waKiL
Coming out of Kansas City, the refreshing and soulful artist named cheif waKiL comes through with a new single titled ‘LOVE.’ Looking to capitalize from all of his recent success, waKiL gives us this optimistic single that finds him tackling many prevalent issues that not only our nation faces, but the world faces as a whole. Very uplifting to say the least. Listen to ‘LOVE’ below and keep your eye out for chief waKiL in the very near future.
Amir Obe
Last, but certainly not least is Detroit-born, Brooklyn-living upstart Amir Obe who drops off his new video titled ‘9 Milli.’ The After Platinum signee (also the home of King Los) released his latest mixtape Detrooklyn this past July, which is where the fiery track ‘9 Milli’ lives. The mixtape itself has gotten critical acclaim from several major sites and after seeing the video for ‘9 Milli,’ it’s safe to say Amir has no plans of slowing down. Check out the ‘9 Milli’ video below and stay tuned for more Amir Obe in the near future.
