[Saturday Spotlight] – DEF Bananas, Royce Rizzy, D-Shep, Boodah + Ikes

saturday spotlight final

Hello, World! Here goes the latest edition of Saturday Spotlight. Today we take a look at another five fresh artists who deserve recognition on a larger scale and they go by the names of DEF Bananas, Royce Rizzy, D-Shep, Boodah and Ikes. Check them out and enjoy!

Remember: We take submissions for this series. Please see guidelines here.

DEF Bananas

First up is a trio from New Jersey who call themselves DEF Bananas. In their brand new video for ‘Turn The Lights Down’, they’re not exactly having the best of luck with the ladies at a party and it’s inspired by the American Pie movies. Where they do have luck though is in good song making ability, with a feel-good chorus and entertaining verses, making them an easily likeable act. Check out the visual below.

Royce Rizzy

Our second pick for this week is Royce Rizzy who has been on his grind for a while now. In case you’re not aware, he and Iamsu! are set to release a collaborative project soon and here’s a sneak peek for you. This new song is produced by Cassius Jay who laces up a trap beat for the pair on which they have no problem flexing. Take a listen to ‘Finesse’ below.

D-Shep

Next up is Miami rapper D-Shep who just dropped a visual for O.Horn-produced record ‘Hate Me’ from his Identity Crisis project which is out now. The entire video is a big middle finger to the haters as it shows him counting money in his Mercedes, backstage at shows and on stage rocking too. He “must be driving you crazy”. Check it out.

Boodah

Fourth up is the debut single of a rapper out of Baltimore who is signed to Trillrich Entertainment. His name is Boodah and for the single ‘Hustlin’, he recruits Jay Verze who has featured on our Saturday Spotlight series on a couple of occasions previously. The track features soothing production by MJ Nichols which both rappers float over effortlessly. Vibe out.

Ikes

The last pick is London MC Ikes’ first offering from the forthcoming Outside|In project, ‘Pray For Me’. The video is directed by Olan Collardy and is a statement to say the least because in it, Ikes says his goodbyes to his former self which is significant of him welcoming a new chapter in his life. Amen.
