It’s crazy to think that this is already the second Saturday Spotlight in August. Where has the year gone? Regardless, we’re back again to share with you some young prospects who caught our ears throughout the week. This week we have ELLIS, Ciscero, Zheep and Tdot Illdude. Enjoy!
Remember: We take submissions for this series. Please see guidelines here.
ELLIS
Maryland rapper ELLIS is set to release his mixtape Ocean Grown and is releasing music from it at a steady rate. Previously we heard ‘Super Conscious’ which was produced by Statik Selektah and now he returns with Legin-produced ‘Smooth Criminal’ with Statik Selektah mixing. Check it out below. “We know more corny mc’s than we know authors.”
Ciscero
Next up is Ciscero who has some new jazz-inspired music to give us today. ‘Kids Wear Crowns’ sees him rapping over Shaad Huron’s trumpets. He’ll be hoping that this one reaches the same amount of people that ‘Who I Am’ did. Listen to the collaboration with Mannywellz and Asante below.
Zheep
Our third pick this week is a rapper from Baltimore who goes by the name Zheep. Zheep’s 10 track EP which is called Mirror, Mirror just released. After a reflective intro, it starts with ‘Imma Imma’ and grabs listeners’ attention immediately with a stand-out record produced by Tek.Lun. Listen to it below.
Tdot Illdude
Last but not least is a new video for ‘Take Me Under’ by Tdot Illdude. If you’re an avid fan of 50 Cent’s show Power, you’ll recognise this song from there. His last record ‘Feeling Myself’ received support from artists like Meek Mill and Chris Brown which is no small feat. This new record was once the #1 trending search on Shazam so the success is looking to continue.
