What’s up, HHNMers? Welcome to Saturday Spotlight. In case you’re unfamiliar with this concept, it’s time for us to share some more new music from aspiring artists that you’ve most likely never heard of but would be wise to check out. This weekend we’re proud to present Kojo, Azad, Will Brennan, Rawyals and Goodbye Tomorrow. Enjoy!
Remember: We take submissions for this series. Please see guidelines here.
Kojo
It’s not often that a producer who doesn’t also rap makes their way onto the Saturday Spotlight so when they do, you know it’s worth paying attention. Kojo is a rising producer and engineer from Maryland who just linked up with Uno Hype for ‘Anybody’. The production is perfect for Uno’s skilled delivery but also engaging enough for you to be able to listen to it on its own. Listen below.
Azad
Azad is a rapper who hails from California. He recently released a visual for ‘If I Die’ featuring Harry Hudson. Throughout the song, Azad details his untimely meeting with Nas, his feelings towards his ex-girl and a lot more. Watch the LA Weekly premiere below. If you like what you hear, you can look forward to a project this year.
Will Brennan
Will Brennan is prepping the release of Black Americana and for the latest single off of the project (which The Fader premiered), he enlists the assistance of CUZ Lightyear, Dre Moon and ManMan Savage. It’s called ‘Interest’ and the topic of conversation is the feeling of having a great connection during your first meeting with someone and never wanting that moment to end. Check out the SkuFL-produced record below.
Rawyals
Rawyals is a trio consisting of Ariel Nicholson, Bel Cabrera and Asia Shabazz. They’ve received the support of 50 Cent who mentioned that they’re prepared to fill a lane which is being left wide open in music. They hit the scene earlier this week with a music video for ‘On One’ which will appear on Our Queendom, their forthcoming album. Take a look at the visual for the party-ready track.
Goodbye Tomorrow
Goodbye Tomorrow is an act from Chicago who just released their 12 track debut album The Journey Through The Mind Of A Non Believer. They wrote and produced it in its entirety and it has no features, an impressive feat for artists who are still not on the general public’s radar. Head below to stream the LP in full.
