From OVO Sound Radio to the Made In America 2015 festival in Philadelphia (which HHNM will be in the building for), today’s looking to be a good day for Hip-Hop. While it’s easy to get your dose of bigger artists, some of the best music can sometimes be found in unknown talent. In this week of Saturday Spotlight, we present Sonya Teclai, Jaeson Green, J.R., Hack The Mack and Dorren Pierre. Enjoy!
Remember: We take submissions for this series. Please see guidelines here.
Sonya Teclai
Sonya Teclai has recently worked with the likes of A Tribe Called Quest member Phife Dawg and Compton contributor King Mez. She is a singer, songwriter and even occasionally raps and all three of those talents are showcased on her smooth new EP Heatwave. She fuses influences like Lauryn Hill, Aaliyah, Janet Jackson and Sade with her own style for a very unique sound. Listen to the EP below.
Jaeson Green
Dallas, Texas presents Jaeson Green who just dropped a 10 track EP called A P.O.M.E. (A Piece Of Me). Aside from the engaging music filled with melodic hooks and strong verses, the project boasts some hilarious skits which help introduce songs. Take a listen to his project.
J.R.
The song from J.R.’s No Filer On Da Way which gained the most hype was the official remix to ‘I’m Just Sayin’ which featured fellow St. Louis artists Nelly and Tiffany Foxx. A video has now been shot and it looks like they had the whole city going crazy. Watch the visual below and stay tuned for the No Filler mixtape.
Hack The Mack
When you’re also known as TrapMan, you’ve got to make some pretty special music. Las Vegas rapper Hack The Mack bundled together 4 of his songs, asked Eazy Almighty The DJ to host and titled the EP IV ZIPS. All of the songs hit hard and do his name justice. You can stream it below.
Dorren Pierre
Dorren Pierre is from Springfield, MA but recently made the big move to New York and is working on his Unknwn EP which is set to drop in Winter. Here’s the first single from the project, ‘Onto Something’ produced by John Dillinger & Apollo. The song proves that Dorren is really on a mission as his emotion is poured out. Hear the song below.
