Metro Boomin Covers The Fader

By now, it’s pretty clear that Metro Boomin has some of the most well recognised production tags in music. Most recently, “if Young Metro don’t trust you, I’m gon’ shoot you” which originated from Uncle Murda’s ‘Right Now’ is the trend, so big that official merchandise is selling.

Taking full advantage of the popularity, Metro Boomin graces the cover of The Fader. Read the full cover story here and check out a supporting video below.

On his lifelong dedication to music:
“I started making beats when I was 13. And I’m about to be 23. That’s 10 years. And it’s just now starting to pay off.”

On his given name, and his mother’s belief in him from birth:
“My name is Leland Tyler Wayne…My mom wanted to give me a name where, no matter what I wanted to do, I’d be able to do it. An astronaut. President. Whatever. Leland Wayne.”

On the competitiveness between Future and Young Thug:
“Yeah, it’s some crazy shit,” he says. “You can’t have either one of them feel like you fucking with the other one more than them. Either one of them would be offended. You gotta remain neutral as much as possible. It’s no bias. Atlanta man—everybody’s a male, there’s a lot of ego. Somebody gotta be number one. Neither one of them are the type to settle for number two. I feel like they both motivate each other, and it’s good for the culture and the music—just as long as it stay at that.”

On working with Drake on What a Time to Be Alive:
“I remember, it was like six in the morning. I had been up in the studio all night mixing beats. And [Drake] come in in the middle of the night to fuck with ‘Jumpman.’ [Drake] was playing a new verse, and I heard ‘Jumpman, jumpman/ Metro Boomin on production, wow.’ And I was like, OK. OK. I fuck with that! I fuck with you!”
