UPDATE: The album moves 154k copies in the first week with 54k out of that from pure sales.
The biggest release of this past Friday was certainly the soundtrack for the Black Panther film which of course was curated by Kendrick Lamar who ended up appearing on almost every song on the track list. It was seen by many as an official TDE project and so the sales projections have been an interesting topic of discussion.
We now have some numbers to talk about. HDD reports that the soundtrack is on its way to selling 110k–120k copies including streams with 35k–40k of those coming from pure sales. As always, this number is susceptible to change so stay tuned for any updates. It will be interesting to see if this number is enough to beat the second week total of Justin Timberlake’s Man of The Woods which topped the charts this week with sales of 296k.
The Black Panther album also features guest appearances from The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Swae Lee, Khalid, Future and more. Stream the project here.
