Pharrell to Take Virgil Abloh’s Role as Louis Vuitton’s Menswear Designer

UPDATE: LV has confirmed the news. “Louis Vuitton is delighted to welcome @Pharrell as its new Men’s Creative Director. His first collection for Louis Vuitton will be revealed next June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris,” it announced in a tweet.

Pharrell Williams is in talks with Louis Vuitton to become the brand’s next menswear designer, reports WSJ citing people “familiar with the matter.”

If chosen, the rapper and super producer, 49, would succeed the late Virgil Abloh, who passed away in November 2021. Virgil was the first Black American to hold a head design role at a European luxury brand. The details about their talks have not been revealed. It’s also not clear what exact title Pharrell would hold if appointed.

A representative for Pharrell did not respond to a request for comment from the publication but several of his close friends, including Steven Victor and Pusha T hinted that the news is legitimate.
