The Weeknd Calls His Next Album His “Last Hurrah As The Weeknd”

The Idol is set to premiere in a few weeks and in anticipation of it, The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp have graced the cover of W Magazine.

In the cover story, the pair talk about how the show came about, the auditioning process, the moment at SoFi and a lot more. But a particular pair of quotes from The Weeknd has people interested.

He tells Lynn Hirschberg that his next album, the completion of the trilogy that begun with After Hours and continued with Dawn FM, will be his last as The Weeknd. “The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd. This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.”

It’s an interesting concept that has fans wondering about what direction his music could go from that point onwards. As for what his name might be moving forward, he had something to say about that too. “I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually” he said. “I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”

It seems this is less about a retirement or taking a break and more about a new era for him as an artist. We’re excited to see what’s next. For now, The Idol premieres June 4th and The Weeknd’s new coffee line is available from tomorrow.
