DJ Akademiks, a prominent hip hop personality who often finds himself in the midst of controversy, has recently been sued for sexual assault, rape and defamation. The survivor, whom Akademiks dated for a brief period of time in 2021 after interactions on the internet, filed a lawsuit that details graphic details of the encounter.
According to the allegations presented, the two hadn’t made contact in over a year when Akademiks invited the survivor to his New Jersey address. The allegations also refer to two other men who reportedly drugged the survivor on Akademiks’ pool deck. Having lost consciousness, the survivor next recounted gruesome details of assault and rape, as she woke up around 4AM next day to find Akademiks in the middle of the crime.
The survivor further reported seeing video recording of the traumatic event from surveillance camera(s) at the property, presented to her by Akademiks himself. Akademiks also asked the survivor to get tested after, and said he would do the same. Furthermore, the survivor also claimed having taken a rape kit, as well as an audio recording of Akademiks talking about the act as directed by the police.
While she originally decided against proceeding with charges, it seems the survivor has had a chance to rethink that stance and sue in search of justice and dignity. This comes in the wake of a 2023 Akademiks livestream where the accused addressed the incident, implying the survivor consensually participated in an orgy with Akademiks’ friends, but not him. This bit essentially forms basis of the defamation part of the allegations.
